In April 2019, the final stage (playoff) of the Russian Students Legal Tournament was held in Moscow. The moot court tournament was dedicated to “Private law and arbitration” and it was held at the President of the Russian Federation Institute of Law and National Security, with the support of leading consulting Russian companies, Russian Lawyers Association, internet-portals Right.ru and Law.ru. The plot was based on a legal conflict between a cafes franchise owner and an entrepreneur who decided to purchase a franchise. The case consisted of complex legal issues and conflicts, including the recovery of pre-assessed damages in according to Russian law, the application of the “estoppel” rule in the arbitration process and more.
Applications for participation in the tournament were submitted by more than 550 students who formed 134 teams from more than 40 higher educational institutions from different regions of the country. The number of participants was unprecedented for such competition. The final stage of the tournament was attended by 16 teams from leading Russian universities, among which were the teams of Moscow State University, Moscow State Law University named after O. E. Kutafin, National Research University Higher School of Economics and others. In the final round of the tournament, the referees were representatives of well-known Russian and international law firms.
Evgenia Logvinova and Andrei Popov were a part of the St. Petersburg Law Academy team which won the competition. Evgenia also was named the “Best speaker” of the tournament. Congratulations to Evgenia on her success, we are sure she has many big victories ahead of her!
